Hailing from South Jersey, COGNITIVE was born in 2011 with the sole intent to create heavy, intensely technical music, while maintaining an edge of creativity that separates them from the over-produced sea of subgenres. Combining technicality, guitar solos, grooves, and abstract ideas within their songwriting, COGNITIVE is continually pushing it self to think outside of the proverbial box while maintaining an organic and unapologetically brutal edge.
Crushing New Jersey tech death act COGNITIVE have begun gearing up for the release of their new album and have announced an October tour supporting Vulvodynia and Alterbeast.
COGNITIVE said in a collective statement, “To finish up our touring for 2018, we wanted to end on a bang. We really wanted to do a proper album release tour around our the release for our new album with some awesome bands, so we’re excited to announce we’ll be hitting the road this fall with South Africa’s very own Vulvodynia who will be making their North American debut and Cali tech death wolf boys in Alterbeast! Dates to be announced soon!” with Vulvodynia adding, “We wanted to end our 2018 off with a bang, so we were all extremely excited when Rob from Cognitive came forward to us presenting the opportunity to do our first US tour. Both Cognitive and ourselves are releasing new albums which we will be playing on this tour. We’re all extremely excited to tear up the USA with the brutal dudes in Cognitive and the crazy tech guys in Alterbeast!”
COGNITIVE have released details for their forthcoming third album and second for Unique Leader Matricide. The album, which will be released on October 26th, shows the band pushing their blistering, chaotic technicality, pummeling brutality, and devastating groove far beyond anything they have done before.
Guitarist Rob Wharton commented, “The band really took a lot of time with making sure this album was different than our last album Deformity. We were extremely happy with the way that album was received, but wanted to try and offer something different this time around. This album pushed all of us on our instruments, but while being hard to play, we wanted to make sure the songs were fun and catchy. We incorporated a ton of new things into this album, while still making sure it sounded like us. We wanted to be more in your face, while still having some abstract passages in the songs. A lot went into this album and we think it’s our best material yet, and we’re very excited for everyone to hear it.”
The massively heavy 10 track effort was recorded by AJ Viana at Sylar Sound Studios, mixed and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (Six Feet Under, Hate Eternal, Revocation), and features artwork by the incredible Pedro Sena (Ingested, Analepsy).
