Ingested formed in 2006 from a previous incarnation Age of Suffering, childhood friends Sean Hynes and Sam Yates met Jason Evans (and later Brad Fuller) through original drummer Gary Harding. After various member changes the addition of drummer Lyn Jeffs in 2006, solidified the group and they reformed, changing name and musical direction. This is the line-up they still keep to this day.
They have been credited for assuming various styles of metal. Ingested are fundamentally inspired by the late 90’s early 00’s American Brutal Death Metal scene, later incorporating elements of the rising Deathcore scene.
After their debut album Surpassing The Boundaries Of Human Suffering was released in 2009, they received critical and cult success. Kerrang magazine gave the album 4/5 stating: “They’re likely to scare some of the death metal big boys out of their path on the way to the top.” Terrorizer Magazine gave the album 8.5/10 and nominated them for best newcomer in their 2009 end of year list.
Subsequently to this release Ingested played major UK festivals: Damnation Deathfest supporting Vader and Repulsion on the mainstage, Hellfire Festival and Ghostfest which included Whitechapel, Sylosis and Despised Icon. In Jan 2010 Ingested embarked on their first European tour with Black Dahlia Murder, 3 Inches of Blood, The Faceless and Carnifex.
After their first UK headlining tour in June 2010 Ingested entered the studio to record their sophomore album The Surreption released 11th of July 2011. The band adopted a more melodic and mature approach for this album, recruiting guest vocal talents of Alex Erian from Canadian band Despised Icon. The album was met with critical success Terrorizer Magazine giving it 4/5.
A month prior to its release Ingested toured with fellow UK outfits Annotations Of An Autopsy and Martyr Defiled across the UK and Europe.
2012 saw the outfit play another headline UK tour, their fourth Ghost fest with Black Dahlia Murder, Emmure and Comeback Kid on the main stage. They also played the European travelling tour Extremefest with Exodus, Suffocation and Origin after which they wrote their self-released EP Revered By No One, Feared By All.
This was mainly funded through various one off shows in early 2013. Ingested themselves aside from writing and recording also took responsibility for the graphic design, printing, publishing and distribution of the EP selling 500 hand numbered copies in under two months from its release on December 16th 2013 with no distribution deal at all (Siege Of Amida later acquiring the digital distribution rights). This EP gained critical acclaim from publications and fans alike. Terrorizer Magazine gave it 8/10, Rocksound Magazine 8/10 and Metal Hammer 7/10.
Devoting most of their time to writing their third album The Architect Of Extinction and seeing them move from Siege Of Amida to Century Media Records in 2014, the album was released January 12th 2015 again with critical and fan acclaim. The UK newspaper The Daily Sport featured Ingested as their artist of the week, Rocksound magazine giving the album 7/10 and Metalized magazine (Denmark) 8/10 also featuring in its editor’s choice for that month.
In 2015 Ingested set out on their first headline European tour in April and played the prestigious Impericon Fest with bands such as Whitechapel, Suicide Silence and The Ghost Inside to a crowd of about 2500 people in their hometown. Sold out shows supporting Thy Art Is Murder followed and in September they embarked on their first US tour on the well received “Devastation On The Nation Tour” with death metal giants, Krisiun and Origin, along side Aeon, Soreption and Alterbeast.
Kicking off the new year in 2016 saw Ingested already killing it with two sold out shows in Manchester and London supporting The Black Dahlia Murder and are currently in talks to head over to the US for a second time.
